Research Chair Awarded
Congratulations to one of our investigators, Scott Leatherdale, who was awarded the Research Chair in Population Studies of Cancer Care Ontario funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The CCO Research Chairs Program is aimed at helping to establish a critical mass of excellent investigators at Ontario institutions focused on the translation of research for the benefit of the cancer system and patients.

Research Group (PHR)
The mission of the Population Health Research group (PHR) is to help scientists and decision makers design, test and disseminate leading
edge research to improve public and population health.
Our team consists of more than three dozen researchers and staff. Our research prevents cancer, heart disease, stroke, and lung disease
by developing and evaluating policies, programs, communications, and other tools to change the social, behavioural, economic and biological
determinants of these diseases. For example, our researchers work with public health officials in Canada and around the world, to increase
physical activity, improve diets, as well as reduce tobacco use, obesity, high blood pressure, stress, diabetes, drug and alcohol abuse,
income inequality, poverty, illiteracy, etc..
We bring scientists and decision makers together to identify important, relevant, and timely
research issues.
We assist scientists to design and conduct leading edge research.
We assist health providers, policy makers and scientists to find
and use research evidence to make informed decisions.
We provide training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate
students, scientists, policy makers, and treatment providers to learn about and to develop skills in population health
research.
Our research is funded by public sector and non-profit organizations such as Health Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research,
The National Cancer Institute of Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health (US).
